Scalp micropigmentation for young men: what you need to know

Micropigmentation capillaire : avant et après sur la ligne frontale / scalp micropigmentation before and after

Watching your hair thin or your forehead grow while you are still young is no small thing. You check the mirror more often, you avoid certain photos, you change your hairstyle and hope nobody notices. If that sounds familiar, remember that nothing forces you to make a decision in a hurry.

Scalp micropigmentation is one of the options worth understanding at this point. This article explains what it can offer a young man, what it does not do, and the questions to ask yourself before going ahead.

Scalp micropigmentation in a few words

Also known as SMP or tricopigmentation, scalp micropigmentation places pigments in the epidermis of the scalp to recreate the look of hair follicles. No surgery is involved. It is not a hair loss treatment: it does not make hair grow back. Its effect is visual, and keeping that in mind helps you approach the subject with realistic expectations.

Why the question is different when you are young

Your hair loss may still change

When hair loss starts early, it is hard to know how far it will go. A plan designed only for your situation today might look less coherent later on. So it is better to think ahead from the start: what would happen if the thinning area spread? Would today’s choice still look balanced? Nobody can predict the future of your hair, but these questions belong in the consultation.

Your style may not be set yet

Still changing your haircut, beard or overall look? Ask yourself what you will want to wear day to day. The shaved effect, for example, means keeping your hair very short. If you are attached to styling your hair, that option is probably not the right one for you.

Understand your hair loss before you choose

Scalp micropigmentation does not replace medical advice. If you want to understand what is causing your hair loss, or to find out about the treatments available, a doctor is the right person to talk to. Our role is different: helping you improve the appearance of your scalp, if that is what you want. We should also mention that OneScalp does not perform hair transplants.

What results can you consider?

Several approaches are possible, depending on your situation. Our article on the shaved effect versus the density effect compares them in detail; here are the essentials.

The shaved effect

It gives the look of a closely shaved head. It may suit you if you would rather turn the page and adopt a clean style, without worrying about what is left on top.

The density effect

The pigment is placed between your existing hairs. The contrast with the scalp is reduced and thinning areas are less visible. You keep your hair, with no need to shave it.

The hairline

It matters a great deal, especially on a young face. It is designed with you, and both its shape and the shade of the pigments are adapted to your face, your skin tone and your hair. The aim is not to transform your appearance, but to achieve a hairline that looks like you.

To get an idea, have a look at our before and after results, bearing in mind that everyone is different and that no result can be promised in advance.

The right questions to ask before deciding

What really bothers me? The forehead, the temples, the top of the head, the overall contrast? The more precise your answer, the more useful the conversation will be.

Can I see myself with this result every day? Picture yourself at work, at the gym, in photos. The right choice is the one you will feel comfortable with every morning.

Have I taken enough time? If you are unsure, wait, ask your questions and compare. A calm decision is better than one made out of worry.

What budget should I plan for? Our prices are given by quote, based on a photo, your first name, your surname and your phone number.

How a treatment works at OneScalp

Everything starts with a free consultation. We look at your situation, listen to what you want and tell you what seems most appropriate, with no commitment. If scalp micropigmentation is not what you need today, we will tell you that too.

If you decide to go ahead, the full treatment is completed in one day. Aftercare advice is given before the treatment, so that you can plan ahead. The hairline and temples are generally more sensitive than the crown. A touch-up is possible about a month later, if needed.

If you are into sport, plan for the following: no training or sweating for 4 days, light training from day 5, normal exercise 10 days after, and no swimming for at least 30 days.

We welcome you in Geneva, close to the train station and the airport, and in Ivry-sur-Seine, on the edge of Paris. To reach us: +41 76 616 05 09 or info@onescalp.ch.

Frequently asked questions

Am I too young for scalp micropigmentation?

There is no single answer. It depends on your hair loss, how it might evolve and what you want. This is exactly the kind of topic we cover in the free consultation.

Can scalp micropigmentation stop my hair loss?

No. It does not make hair grow back and its effect is purely visual. For any medical question about your hair loss, please see a doctor.

What if my hair loss progresses after the treatment?

It is best to raise this question at the consultation, so that the plan takes into account how your hair may evolve. The options will then depend on your situation.
